About SPP

The Agenda:  Reversing the Childhood Obesity Epidemic by 2015

As the Sports Philanthropy Project enters our second decade, our fundamental mission - to harness the power of sports and the sports industry for the maximuGreg from Spring Training 2008m benefit of the communities in which we live - seems as relevant today as it did when SPP first was launched.  With our broad mandate to leverage the assets of an industry to create a better and healthier quality of life for children and their families, we have approached this challenge in myriad ways over the years.

Today, we've focused our work more sharply in order to address one of the most pressing public health challenges facing our nation—reversing the epidemic of childhood obesity.  It is truly our hope that by committing extensive resources, time, and talent to tackling this national challenge, we can exponentially amplify our impact to help reverse the epidemic by 2015.

In the coming months we will be launching several exciting new initiatives designed to encourage physical activity and otherwise to reduce the incidence of obesity among our youth.  I invite you to keep a close look at our site in days to come as we announce further details. As always, we invite your essential input in terms of ideas and partnership as we attempt to address this most ambitious challenge.  We are determined, with your help, to prevail in this most serious area. Thanks for your continued support.

Yours in philanthropy, Greg
