Junior Seau Foundation

Mission:

For 15 years, the Foundation has given San Diego–area youth ongoing support in the form of scholarships and financial support for a variety of programs.  The Foundation achieves its mission through financial contributions from corporations and individuals.  While each of these programs is unique, all satisfy the Foundation’s overall mission:

To educate and empower young people through the support of child abuse prevention, drug and alcohol awareness, recreational opportunities, anti-juvenile delinquency efforts and complimentary educational programs.

Grantmaking Objectives:

The Junior Seau Foundation is committed to fiscal responsibility and wise use of all donations received.From January 1, 2003 through June 30, 2007, the Junior Seau Foundation committed $2,683,334 to San Diego's most vulnerable population - the children:

Shop with a Jock: $262,972
Mervyn's, Publix Super Markets, Target Corporation, corporate sponsors, individual donors, Chargers, NFL alumni and amateur athletes team with the Foundation to give underprivileged children a gift certificate for $100 and the opportunity to shop for gifts for their loved ones.

The Scholars of Excellence: $133,328
Created to recognize young men and women who are dedicated to both personal and academic excellence, financial assistance was granted to scholars who have the desire, but not the means to achieve their dreams through higher education.

The Junior Seau Foundation was established in 1992 to raise money and resources for programs that inspire young people to face life's challenges with enthusiasm, hope and dignity. Some of the largest beneficiaries since January 2003 include:

The Endowment: $365,000

The Junior Seau Foundation is committed to build an endowment which will benefit, in perpetuity, programs supporting children and young adults who have the desire but not the means to improve their lives. As of June 30, 2007 the endowment has reached $812,887.46.
