Mission:
Troy and Tommi Vincent founded Love Thy Neighbor Community Development
& Opportunity Corporation (formerly the Troy Vincent Foundation). Love Thy Neighbor is committed to comprehensive community development and strives to build thriving neighborhoods by creating opportunities for positive social and economic change. Programs include:
School Safety Program
Love Thy Neighbor partnered with the Trenton School
District, the American Red Cross of Central New Jersey and the New Jersey
Coalition of Automotive Retailers to offer American Red Cross safety programs
in Trenton-area schools. Last year, the New Jersey Department of Health
reported that the leading cause of death among young people between the ages of
1-24 was due to unintentional injury. One out of every 10 calls to local EMS
personnel is for an emergency involving a child. First aid skills are of
paramount importance in our communities. Educating people in the appropriate
skills to prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies can and will decrease
these numbers.
TN & LISC Football Field Program
Love thy Neighbor has partnered with the Local Initiatives
Support Corporation ("LISC") and the National Football League
Community Football Fields Program to renovate the Calhoun Street Field located
at Father Rocco's Park. This project will revamp the current area and provide
for doubleplaying field area with the
construction of a two football fields and a soccer field. This project will
bring the first astroturf field to the area as well as turn the fields into a
first-class operation complete with new goals, grandstands, bleachers,
scoreboards and a press box. A new Irrigation system will also be built. Thanks
to LISC andthe NFL Community Football
Fields Program for partnering with LTN to renovate this park. This project will
benefit the hundreds of children and families who participate in LTN's Pop
Warner Little Scholars Football and Cheer Program, provide jobs for several
individuals and be an overall outstanding investment and addition to the
community.
Trenton Pop Warner Little Scholars Football & Cheer Program
For many years, children from the city of Trenton have been
powerhouse additions by their participation in neighboring Pop Warner
programs. Now, for the first time ever,
the city of Trenton has a Pop Warner Football & Cheer Program. Pop Warner
was founded in 1929, continues to grow and serves as the only youth football,
cheerleading & dance organization that requires its participants to
maintain academic standards in order to participate.
A.E.I.O.U. - Athletes Excelling In the Classroom, On the
Field U Win
A.E.I.O.U. provides student-athletes the opportunity to
strengthen their knowledge base in NCAA core courses through structured
tutorial programs. The program focuses on building a foundation for lifelong
learning and provides student-athletes with SAT Prep courses to develop test
taking strategies and techniques for increased performance on the SAT.
DNA - Dad Needs Assistance
DNA is a fatherhood mentoring program developed in
collaboration with Trenton, New Jersey-area social workers, community leaders
and school faculty. Love Thy Neighbor’s mission is to promote positive
involvement and interaction between fathers and their children, and to increase
the ability of fathers to meet the social, emotional, financial and educational
needs of their children. The DNA program began in October 2004 with the teen
population currently attending Trenton Central High School. In September 2005
the second phase of DNA was launched including single fathers ages 18-30 from
the Mercer County the community and ex-offenders re-entering the community
after being incarcerated.
Seed, Feed and Grow
Seed, Feed and Grow is an elementary reading program
developed by Love Thy Neighbor program developers and advisors. The program
encourages children to imagine, dream and explore while learning and
establishing a love for reading. Seed, Feed and Grow is comprised of two
components: group reading sessions and individual reading sessions. The group
reading sessions include books that teach myriad subjects including geography,
math, science and life skills. Children currently reading below grade level are
candidates for the individual reading program.
Seed, Feed and Grow encourages elementary school children to
adopt a sense of ownership by "donating" a book to the Love Thy
Neighbor Library in his / her name. Love Thy Neighbor uses current public
school system reading measurements to consistently evaluate the success of the
Seed, Feed and Grow program.
Youth Scholarships
Since 1994, Love Thy Neighbor has awarded more than $300,000
in scholarships to deserving students graduating from Pennsbury High School and
Trenton Central High School. Each year a graduating student from each high
school is chosen and awarded a scholarship for their college education.
Students become eligible for renewal by staying in school and maintaining an
above average grade point average. Students who have received Love Thy Neighbor
scholarships have gone on to attend and graduate from such fine academic
institutions as University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of
North Carolina at Winston-Salem, the University of Wisconsin, Florida A&M
