Comcast-Spectator Foundation (Philadelphia Flyers, 76ers)

Mission:

Comcast-Spectacor Foundation is committed to improving the quality of life for people in the communities it serves. The Comcast-Spectacor Foundation, encompassing Flyers, Sixers, Phantoms and Global Spectrum Charities, has contributed nearly $20 million to countless recipients and touched hundreds of thousands of lives.

The principal focus of the Foundation is to support non-profit organizations that provide educational and recreational resources to underserved youth and to causes that engage in medical research and other important healthcare initiatives.

Flyers Charities
The Flyers Wives Fight For Lives Carnival is a genuine family affair that involves the participation of the Flyers' and Phantoms’ players, management, staff, alumni and their families.  The first Carnival was held February 1, 1977, and raised $95,435.  Later that year, one of the Flyers’ own, Barry Ashbee, died of leukemia.  With his death came a truly heartfelt focus to the Carnival.   The monies raised from that first Carnival were designated for Hahnemann University Hospital which led to the formation of the Barry Ashbee Research Laboratories.  The Flyers Wives Holiday Event and Stick auction are a few of our other fundraising events. Now, with the dawning of the new NHL season, we are expanding our focus to include many charities within the Greater Philadelphia Region.

Among the more than 100 charities that benefit each year from Flyers Charities events, The Barry Ashbee Research Laboratories at Hahnemann University Hospital remains one of the recipients near and dear to our hearts.  The Flyers Charities have joined together to make significant donations to local organizations including funding of the Flyers' Wives Art Gallery at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Greater Philadelphia Food Bank, Temple University Health Systems, Drexel University, the St. Agnes Medical Center Surgical Services, and the University of Pennsylvania Emergency Room. Special donations were also made to the Wellness Community of Philadelphia, and The Children's Crisis Treatment Center of Philadelphia.

Sixers Charities
YOUR SIXERS. OUR COMMUNITY.

The ultimate measure of an organization’s success is not only the number in the “win” column at the season’s end, but also what the team stands for year after year in the community.

Sixers Charities takes tremendous pride in serving the community and its children.  By assisting organizations that focus on youth, recreation, health and education, our hope is to make a positive difference.  We have helped create and assist in a wide variety of services, including educational and recreational programs, and provide tickets, autographed and promotional items, and publicity.  Most importantly, the personal involvement and dedication of the 76ers family is what we hope will make Philadelphia a better place to live.

As partner and friend to the children of the Delaware Valley, the 76ers are primarily focused on helping kids succeed in school, form well-rounded lives, and, most of all, have fun.  After all, children should have the opportunity to play, grow, dream and ultimately, “win” at life.  The Sixers reach out to area youth in many ways.  The franchise’s programming covers an incredible range, from monthly reading appearances at local schools, to educational initiatives on the team’s web site, to refurbishing playgrounds, to providing scholarships for students.  Each year, the club touches over 35,000 kids in the Delaware Valley.

Children, however, are not the only beneficiaries of good will, as the 76ers are honored to reach Philadelphians in other ways as well.  The team supports area hospitals by visiting patients of all ages, host annual outings at seniors’ centers, sponsors an adult wheelchair basketball team, and honors local citizens for outstanding community service at games.
