Mission:
Established in 1997, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation
focuses its efforts on three main areas of need: homelessness, indigent
healthcare and children's programs of all types, including education and youth
baseball field development. In 2006, the Diamondbacks Foundation raised $1.1
million that went directly back to the Arizona community.
Grantmaking Objectives:
Established in 1997, before the Arizona Diamondbacks ever
played a Major League game, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation focuses on the
three areas of need: homelessness, indigent healthcare and youth education
programs of all types. Since its inception the Diamondbacks Foundation has
donated more than $10 million statewide. Funds for the Arizona Diamondbacks
Foundation are raised through events such as Evening on the Diamond, Arizona
Diamondbacks Foundation Broadcast Auction, "Shirts Off Our D-backs,"
and other team-related activities. The Arizona Diamondbacks take great pride in
being recognized as a leader in community giving. Our commitment to the needs
of our state will continue to be a cornerstone of our corporate mission.
- The Grand Slam Award
was established in 2002 to make a larger impact on community organizations by
providing a grant in the amount of $100,000 or more. Past recipients include
Southwest Autism Research Center and Resource Center, ACCEL, the Amblyopia
Foundation, Clinica Adelante, Chrysalis Shelter for Victims of Domestic
Violence, Arizona Helping Hands, Phoenix Herpetological Society, UMOM and Boys
and Girls Club of Metropolitan Phoenix. The grant is made possible by
fundraising efforts by the Diamondbacks Foundation and by contributions from
the Diamondbacks Partnership Group.
- Each year, the Diamondbacks Foundation donates more than
$250,000 to support community programs statewide through our program grants.
These grants are awarded in amounts between $1000- $5000. All 501(c)3
non-profit organizations in Arizona are welcome to apply for funding, however
priority is given to organizations who fall under the Diamondbacks Foundations'
focus areas.
- Since 2000, Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation has built or
refurbished over 15 baseball fields as part of the "Diamonds Back"
Youth Field Building Program. The fields are built through the aid of corporate
sponsor APS, local businesses, funds from Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation and
monetary donations from individual players. Fields are dedicated in
Diamondbacks players' names and generally feature new lights, an electronic
scoreboard, new fencing and backstops, new irrigation and new dirtwork and/or
grass. The locations of the fields are determined through a grant process.
- The Pinch Hitter Fund is a grant program created to help youth baseball
and softball programs by providing relief for lost or stolen equipment,
damaged facilities, or for uniform or equipment shortages.
- The Play Ball Scholarship Fund is a joint venture between the Arizona
Diamondbacks Foundation and Chase to provide support to Arizona youth
baseball and softball leagues that have players in need of financial
assistance. Play Ball Scholarship Fund money is donated to the
Diamondbacks Foundation by Chase. For each Diamondbacks home run hit
each season, Chase donates $250 to the Play Ball Scholarship Fund.
Youth baseball and softball leagues interested in the Play Ball
Scholarship Fund must fill out an application, which is reviewed
quarterly by the Diamondbacks Foundation staff.
