New York Mets Foundation

Mission:

The Mets Foundation funds and promotes a variety of charitable causes, including educational, social and athletic programs for the young people of our community. Founded in 1963, it continues its mission to invest in the future of our community and provide assistance to myriad organizations that benefit children and support other worthy charitable causes.

A registered 501c3 charity, the Mets Foundation takes no portion of the funds raised to offset internal costs. Every dollar of net receipts granted to the Foundation is directed to accomplishing its mission.

The Mets Foundation is partnering with the individual causes and foundations of Mets players during the 2007 season. The Mets Foundation Teammates in the Community charity fundraiser held on June 21 at Richards in Greenwich, Conn., more formally introduced this commitment. A sold-out crowd of 400 guests helped raise more than $500,000, which will be distributed by the Mets Foundation to a variety of worthy causes selected by Mets ownership and players who participated in the event's live auction. Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, Tom Glavine, Paul Lo Duca, Jose Reyes, Scott Schoeneweis, Billy Wagner, David Wright, Willie Randolph, Omar Minaya, Tom Seaver and Rusty Staub were on hand to mingle with guests and encourage all to bid on their individually unique auction experiences.

The Mets Foundation will be matching the personal fundraising efforts of Beltran, Delgado and Wagner throughout the season - $500 for each of Beltran's RBI this season to Harlem RBI; $100,000 to match Delgado's donation to Extra Bases; and $1,000 for each save Wagner accumulates this year to the East Harlem Tutorial Program and the Second Chance Learning Center in Virginia.
