USA Track & Field Foundation

Mission:

Over the past several years, track & field and running have experienced substantial increases in popularity and participation. USA Track & Field (USATF) has directly benefited from this running "boom" via membership growth, thriving events, expanded national television coverage and additional financial resources.

The leadership of USATF - realizing there was substantial, untapped potential for track & field to make a lasting and meaningful impact on the lives of millions of Americans - joined with elite athletes, track & field enthusiasts, and experienced officials to create the USA Track & Field Foundation. Officially launched December 5, 2002, at USATF's Annual Meeting, the Foundation provides a means to attract and guide funds to new and innovative track & field programs and expand involvement in the sport.

The mission of the Foundation is to support the development of emerging elite athletes, while fostering integration within the broader track and field community, and to facilitate the physical, educational, social and character development of youth track & field athletes and to help prepare them to mature and succeed in adult life.

The USA Track & Field Foundation assists people of all ages, all walks of life, and all ability levels in finding enjoyment and accomplishment and achieving fitness through our inclusive sport. In particular:

The Foundation will reach out to the thousands of young people who would like to take part in the sport but lack the opportunity. The Foundation will also assist dedicated Olympic hopefuls who could realize their dreams and potential if given the opportunity, and also will aid older Americans who would find great joy and benefit from participating if exposed to the very inclusive sport of track & field. The programmatic interests of the Foundation are as broad as the sport it serves.

The Foundation is committed to:

·         Exposing more young people to the benefits of track & field and funding travel to major youth events.

·         Expanding existing masters events and programs and access to them.

·         Promoting the development of Team USA, the World's #1 Track & Field Team.

·         Helping to attract and train the next generation of the world's best officials.

·         Expanding coaching education curricula and providing scholarships to deserving coaches.

·         Assist USA Track & Field in its fight against drugs in sport.

Grantmaking Objectives:

  1. Elite Athlete Grant Program: The purpose of the Elite Athlete Grant Program is to contribute to the pursuit of world-class performance by American post-collegiate track and field athletes who have met minimum performance standards, income criteria and other qualifications. Supports approximately 20-30 athletes.

  2. Youth Programs: The Foundation supports and encourages a healthy drug free lifestyle through a number of youth programs including training grants to 25-30 youth training clubs and support of USATF's Mark Springer Youth Travel Grant Program, which provides travel support for hundreds of youth to attend competitive opportunities such as the Junior Olympics and Youth National Championships.
