INDIANAPOLIS – Pacers Foundation, Inc., announced a new
partnership with The LEAGUE, a youth service organization, to carry out the Be
Charitable program.
Schools across Indiana will implement the Be Charitable
program which will help kindergarten through 12th grade students learn the
value of giving back to their communities, working together and addressing
their community’s needs, while making a friendly competition of it.
The Be Charitable program’s Starting Five are Pacers
players, Fever players, coaches and celebrity staff, Pacemates and
mascots.The Starting Five will support
the students throughout the year delivering messages of encouragement,
participating in service activities, rewarding students with Pacers and Fever
tickets and delivering the trophy to the winners.
“The Be Charitable program is a collaborative effort in the
truest sense: The LEAGUE; Pacers Foundation; Indiana Association of School
Principals; schools across Indiana; students, teachers and parents; and local
corporations who, we know, will want to become part of this – all of us are
joining together to teach and inspire Indiana’s youth to give back and to
continue to give back over the course of their lives,” said Jami Marsh,
Executive Director, Pacers Foundation.
“Our primary goal is to encourage students to ‘Get into the
game’ of community service” said Eric Hollister, State Director of Indiana for
The LEAGUE.“When youth match their
skills with issues that are meaningful to them, true passion emerges.”
Schools will be able to track the economic impact of
students’ service activities using a point system created for the Be Charitable
program.Schools and students can follow
their point totals in a friendly competition with schools across the state and
receive rewards for their efforts.
